Everything i’m bringing to javelina jundred 2026

So, my second attempt at a hundred mile race is less than two weeks away down in Arizona (I’m in Minnesota). My in-laws are driving down starting this Thursday so it is time to pack up.

There are a ton of things that can go wrong over a hundred miles, and some of them are out of your control, but being unprepared shouldn’t be one of them.

Sure, I will have some stuff that I won’t use or don’t need but I would much rather have it than the other way around.

So, this is an extensive list of EVERYTHING that I am bringing with to Javelina. From running gear and nutrition to first aid, electronics, and crew area.

A couple of important notes

  • We will be sharing our tent space with 3 other runners and their crew/pacers/family/friends so there will be a fair amount of people in the area and even though we are all responsible for our own fueling we did pack some extra stuff just in case. My wife and in-laws will help all 4 of us runners with anything that is needed so we want to make sure we are covered if necessary. Also, one of them is bringing a large cooler so that isn’t on my list but we will definitely have it!

  • Second, we will be doing a grocery run once we arrive in Phoenix to get food and drinks for the crew. We will also be purchasing ice ahead of time and there will be ice for sale on the course.

Ok, now the list:

FUEL AND HYDRATION

  • My current plan going into Javelina is to take 3-Precision 90 gels for each loop. I will also be taking a 250mg sodium capsule every 20 minutes. Loops should take me between 4-5 hours each, at least early in the race. This should put me in the ballpark of just about 60 carbs/hour and 750mg/sodium per hour. These numbers are on the low end for me, but by the time you factor in Aid Station food and Crew stop food, I am guessing I will be around 75-80g/hour and 1,000mg/sodium per liter of water. These are obviously just my personal plans for nutrition and not recommendations for you, everyone is so different when it comes to fuel and hydration.

  • What am I bringing?

    • Tailwind Endurance Fuel Dauwaltermelon (will premix this, 5 servings into a gallon of water) Will be about 400mg sodium and 30 carbs per 500mL bottle

    • Precision Chews in Mint Lemon as well as Watermelon

    • Extra Precision 90s

    • Precision 30s

    • Precision 30 with Caffeine

    • Maurten with Caffeine Gels

    • Pickle Juice Shots

    • Precision Hydration 1500 tablet (750mg Sodium per tablet)

    • Precision Hydration 1000 tablets (500mg Sodium per tablet)

    • Nutricost Caffeine Capsules (200mg caffeine/capsule)

running VEST AND HYDRATION

MISC ITEMS

  • Towels

  • Wash Cloths

  • Ice Scoop

  • Assortment of Ziploc bags, plastic bags, and trash bags

  • Duct Tape

  • Funnel for drink mixes

MOST IMPORTANTLY…..

LUBE, Lube, and More lube!

AND THAT’S IT

Well, that is a ton of stuff!

Overkill? Probably.

Will I use everything? Absolutely not.

But after experiencing first hand how many things can go wrong during a 100 mile race, I would much rather be over prepared than wish I had something.

Hopefully this list helps someone else preparing for their first (or next) 100-miler. And if you see something I am missing, let me know.

Now, time to pack!
